This is a guide on how to create a Player to fit into the world of Eberron. If you would like more info on Eberron please take a look at the Eberron Player Primer

1. Create a DnDBeyond account

DnDBeyond is the app that we use to keep track of most things. While yes you can use pen and paper but with DnDBeyond you are able to add in items and track stats and spells and all that without having to look them up every time.

Feel free to use a Character Sheet, I have a few copies, for stats and all that and DnDBeyond just for inventory and spells.

Another benefit of DnDBeyond is that I own books on the platform and because of that, their information gets added to your character creator. This means that when you go to create your character, new backgrounds, classes, races and other things are available - Especially helpful for all the new Eberron stuff.

NOTE: Do not create a character until you have joined the campaign

2. Join the campaign

Once you have created your account you can join the campaign via this link >> CLICK HERE <<

Then you can start creating your character. There are lots of options, take a look through them, through the classes and through the races - if you want info on what’s new in Eberron check the primer. I especially think Warforged and Changelings are super cool.

If you want some additional fun and something tied to this world take a look at the Dragonmarked houses in the primer. They are also available as subraces in DnDBeyond.

If you get stuck rolling for skills or are not sure what you should best put your stats into here is a brief list:

  • Barbarian - STR, DEX
  • Bard - CHA, DEX
  • Cleric - WIS, STR
  • Druid - WIS, DEX
  • Fighter - STR, DEX or DEX,WIS (if doing the spellcasting fighter)
  • Monk - DEX, WIS
  • Paladin - STR, CHA
  • Ranger - DEX, WIS
  • Rogue - DEX, WIS
  • Sorcerer - CHA, DEX
  • Warlock - CHA, DEX
  • Wizard - INT, DEX

Dexterity is a bit op, its used for initiative and a bunch of stuff.

Also take a look at subclasses, but we can discuss those more in person as they are confusing and a bit overwhelming.

3. Character Background

Once you have done the two top steps you are kind of done with your character creation in a gameplay sense. BUT, it is important that you think about your characters backstory and place in the world. The player primer has quite a few things for you to think about so please check that out. It is best to write this down somewhere, either in DnDBeyond or some notes somewhere.

But the most important parts are:

  • What were you doing during the Last War?
  • How did the Last War effect you?
  • Where are you from?
  • What status do you have?
  • Personal ties?
  • Why are you affiliated with the rest of the group.
  • Character alignment?

Then some small quirky questions to get you started on background:

  • Do you have any debt?
  • Is there a group of people you pissed off?
  • What are you like to the other races?
  • Do you have your own mission?
  • Are you hiding a secret?

Feel free to share all this info with me and we can discuss it, I can tie it into the world and slowly bring it up to the other players.

Please also think of 3 or 4 rumors or secrets about your character that we can pass along to other members so that there is some info about your character for downtime and talking between chars. These can be true, somewhat true or complete lies it does not matter. If you would like also take a look at these for inspiration or just take one

Our current group is under the employ of House Cannith West as members of the “Last War Rearchitecting” branch. They have been tasked with researching the Mournland and seeing what can be done about restoring Cyre.
